Here is a bit of Michigan trivia for you. People who live in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula or UP are referred to as “Yoopers,” while people who live in Northern Michigan, but on the South side of the Mackinac Bridge are called trolls. In the UP there is a wonderful little town called Ishpeming, MI and they take great pride in laughing at themselves and have made a practical market for being a Yooper. I took a few pictures while visiting a shop there that you just can’t help but laugh out loud when you see some of the things there.
Definitely give being a “redneck” or a “hillbilly” a whole new meaning. The store is called “Da Yoopers Tourist Trap” and you can visit their website at www.dayoopers.com and see some of the comical items for yourself. The people there are wonderful, friendly and extremely helpful. If you are ever in the UP, please go and visit Da Yooper Trap on U.S. 41, Ishpeming, Michigan.
Oh, the picture with the tree trunk and the top of the tree missing, my husband is standing beside it. Well, the portion of the tree that is left is what was buried in the snow when the tree was still alive and the top part was what was above the snow and harvested. This should give you an idea of how much snow can and has fallen on the UP.
Enjoy! Hope you have a wonderful day and for those suffering from high temperatures, think SNOW!
