Today was a big day for us and extremely busy. For the first time since our arrival, we were totally on our own. Our wonderful hostess had things she needed to do and she felt that we would be alright on our own. The chicks were leaving the nest.
First up was an appointment at JEP, which is much like a credit union in the states. We started the paperwork for opening an account, but they wanted to see our social security cards which we don’t carry with us. They are currently in safe keeping and we are unable to get them. So we have sent them a copy of our benefits letter to see if that will work. If not, then we will have to wait until it is sent to our mail service who will scan it and send via email. They can also send the original via FedEx. No big deal, we can pay cash instead of auto withdrawal.
We have a wonderful lady that we are working with who acts as a facilitator and translator to help us get things in order. She found us our beautiful penthouse, arranged for us to buy some great furniture pieces and will help us with any problems we may have. If you ever need a good realtor and/or facilitator, I would highly recommend Veronica Arpi of Cuenca Best Properties, she is marvelous and speaks fluent English. She knows all the ends and outs and gets marvelous results.
After leaving JEP, we went to an appliance where we purchased a microwave and a dishwasher. The dishwasher is installed tomorrow. I am having to use my Google Translate, to understand what buttons do what. This even has a grill!
As soon as the dishwasher delivery was done, the people with the living room furniture arrived. We now have a lovely sofa, love seat and chair. It was quite an accomplishment I must say as they are not allowed to use the elevator for deliveries of appliances, furnishings, etc. They had to walk up four flights of stairs to deliver and then the sofa almost didn’t make it. The pieces are really nice and are very comfortable.
We even went to the Mall to buy a few things for the home, paid for them, ordered a Hawaiian pizza and the gave the cab instructions on how to get to our home.
Life is good here and a challenge, but we are up for it. Working on our Spanish and I am finding that I can read and understand more than I can speak, but that too shall get better.
Until later my friends, have a great week and may God bless you and keep you safe. Here are a few pictures of our new home and it’s wonderful views.
